A Tuscan-Inspired Perth Winery Wedding
Christina and Paul’s wedding kicked off my 2020 as an absolute banger of a celebration. Seriously. It was a hell of a party, with a guest list of 130, a wedding party of 14, and a beautiful, warm, boisterous Portuguese/Italian family that I fell in love with.
The day felt like we’d been transported out of Perth to somewhere in countryside Italy. In all fairness, I’ve never been to Italy, but having their ceremony at St. Patrick’s Basilica – a Roman Catholic church designed in a gothic revival style – followed by a reception tucked away in the rolling vineyards of Millbrook Winery definitely delivered some Tuscany vibes. Because of how unique Millbrook is to the Perth wedding scene, the winery has quickly become one of my favourite wedding venues to shoot at, and if the scenery alone isn’t enough to sway you, the fact that all of the food is either sourced locally or directly from their own gardens might.
Honestly, Christina and Paul could both easily pass as royalty – I’ve not met many couples so easily self-assured and elegant, and the pieces they chose for their day reflected that. Paul and his groomsmen all showed up looking classically handsome in suits from Platinum Menswear and Christina’s brideswomen all wore handmade white gowns by local designer Bojena King. Christina’s Galatea gown was a Willowby Watters design that couldn’t have been more perfect on her, coupled with a cathedral length show-stopper of a veil.
I promise, weddings never go according to plan
I always recommend that couples plan just a little bit of extra time for their post-ceremony photos than they think they need because, inevitably, something will always go not according to plan. If you’re planning a wedding, I reckon it’s just good practice to accept this ahead of time, so that when it does happen, you’re already mentally prepped for it. In Christina and Paul’s case, the limo ran into a few mechanical issues on the drive to the winery, and Stunning Limo Hire Perth pulled through with a last-minute clutch replacement for the whole wedding party. Because we hadn’t skimped on portrait time to begin with, we still had nearly an hour of portrait time after a 30-min delay, nothing felt rushed or squeezed in, and Christina and Paul took everything like the absolute chilled out king and queen they are.
