Jon and Kath’s summer celebration was more than just a wedding – it was a full-blown Leap Day bash that basically took over the entire suburb of Nedlands. From a guest list exceeding 100 to a midday gelato break to lawn games on the foreshore – it was basically just a huge black tie, beautifully styled barbecue, and I loved every second of it.
I’m getting quite repetitive saying this about my couples, but Jon, Kath and I have been hitting it off since the first time we met and now I feel fortunate enough to call them both friends. Kath and I have been Insta-sisters for nearly a year now – swapping project ideas, baking endeavours and podcasts reccos – and the four of us even followed up their pre-wedding session by bonding over the joy of eating American BBQ until we were too full to function.
Matilda Bay
I do love a good foreshore wedding, no matter where you have it, but there’s a special place in my heart for the Matilda Bay area of the Swan River. For as much as photographers talk about sunset light, you’d think we’d prefer locations facing west, but my unpopular opinion? Give me all the pastel tones you get facing east as the sun sets. For Jon and Kath’s reception especially – how is that pink and blue sky not the PERFECT backdrop for that pink and blue floral install?
Snap happy and not even sorry
This wedding was a perfect example of why, even though I don’t want to completely overwhelm you with your gallery, I just can’t bring myself to limit the photos I deliver to my couples. There were just so many special parts of this day, and so many beautiful people in their guest list – and if you know me, you’ll know I love capturing guest shenanigans almost as much as I love capturing my couples.
So prepare yourself before diving into this blog post my sweets – it’s a long one.

Planning: I have to take a hot little second to mention that Kath and Jon planned their whole wedding themselves. You wouldn’t believe the detail and thought they put into everything and I know for a fact they handmade all the table decorations. Kath also designed the invitations herself and I know for a fact she stayed up the night before the wedding to HAND-WRITE the table seating sign. They had some beautifully talented family members step in to hand make the cake as well as the groomsmen’s bowties and pocket squares. A whole lot of talent in this family, folks.
